  • Spanish Dinky Toys

    Spanish Dinky Toys

Dinky’s Made in Spain models are a fascinating mixture of French castings sent to Spain for manufacture by Pilen (sometimes with modifications), like the Peugeot 204, Citroen Dyane and Citroen 2CV and Pilen original castings with the Dinky name added to the baseplates, like the Matra Simca Bagheera, Opel Ascona and Chrysler 1308GT. Well made, all the models are highly evocative of the sort of cars you’d see on seventies European roads and are now very collectable.

  • Mini-Dinky

    Mini-Dinky

Dinky’s second attempt at grabbing a share of the small-scale diecast market met with little success. Made in Hong Kong, the models which appeared under the Mini-Dinky brand name in 1968 were all highly detailed but turned out to be fragile, with their many opening features, and highly prone to metal fatigue. And as it turned out, opening bonnets, boots and doors were no match for Hot Wheels’ fast-running axles. As a result, the Mini-Dinky range lasted just one year. Today the models are all collectable, if you can reconcile the fact that the vast majority will already be at least partly disintegrated!

  • Corgi The Green Hornet's Black Beauty

Corgi The Green Hornet's Black Beauty

Taking a look at Corgi's model of The Green Hornet's Black Beauty from the 1966-67 TV series seems particularly timely right now, with the film version of the show on its way. The model is also interesting in the Corgi character pantheon not just for its features, but as one of the character vehicles to long outlive the show it was based on - by five years in this case!
