In 1932 Georg Köhler started the production, on a small scale, of mechanical tin-plate animals and until the Second World War the collection remained unaltered. After the War Köhler enlarged his collection and bigger sales resulted. Köhler is still active in this field.

This well-known company went into slot car racing in a big way in 1964, producing beautiful and well engineered kits. K&B issued a growing number of slot racing accessories sold on familiar yellow and black cards. Perhaps the most coveted model is the K&B Batmobile, of which only 12 Mint-in-Box versions are known to exist. K&B was a victim of the 1968 collapse but survived as a model airplane engine manufacturer. K&B is still going today.

Schreyer & Co traded under the name Schuco, a German toy company founded in NuremburgIn 1912 the firm Schuco was founded by Heinrich Muller and his partner Schreyer. The name of the Nuremberg firm derived from the first letters of Schreyer & Co.

Founded in 1931 in London, FROG stands for Flies Right Off the Ground. In 1932, a marketing partnership was created with the toy company Lines Brothers.

VINELAND, N.J. – Bertoia’s March 23-24 ‘Made to Be Played’ auction, a 1,400-lot offering highlighted by the Grover Van Dexter European tin toy collection, closed the books at an impressive $1.3 million (inclusive of 15% buyer’s premium). An extensive variety of early toys crossed the auction block. A Hubley cast-iron Popeye Patrol depicting the popular cartoon sailor on a motorcycle had been estimated at $10,000-$12,000 and rode off as top lot after hammering $19,550.
