Dinky Austin Champ, Army version, #674 1954 to 1971

I am restoring an Austin Champ, Military version, for a customer. It is very rusty under the hood where the windscreen is attached. Also, the axles are rusted and the hubs have rusted to the axles. I have removed the front axle and hubs, as you can see in the photos. The rear hub on the drivers side, is giving me a time of it. I am now soaking it in WD-40 overnight to see if that will free it up. If not, I will cut it and make a new axle.

Watch along as I restore this toy. I hope I can get the pictures to load up to this thread but if not, they are in my gallery.

Here I have let it soak for hours and hours in stripper. Some Dinky Paint just does not want to come off.

The rust on this toy is very bad. The spare tire holder I will have to pick away at and the rest has to be Bead Blasted. The windscreen is very pitted and the hubs you can see, were rusted to the axles. If fact the rear axle had to be cut. So a replacement is in order. The rest can be saved. Sure hope it cleans up nice int the blaster.

Comments and Criticism!?
written by Nobleco, July 30, 2008
If you would like you can still comment and criticize my work here. I will move it over I have posted all the pictures of the restoration. I would like them all in a nice continuous format until I am done. Makes it easier to view the process and then comments can be added there after I move all the comments here. I will then delete this Blog entry. Might hurt my stats in blogs but should bet it back in cars. LOL Hope you enjoy and please, Feel Free To Comment Freely. Jim, in cars.
Moving this Blog to the Cars Forum
written by Nobleco, July 30, 2008
I have decided that this topic belongs in the new Cars/Members Projects Thread on the Cars Forum. There fore, as I can not move (nor can the admin and mods) this blog into a forum, I will duplicate what is here so far and post it all in the Members Projects Child Board under Cars in forums. Hope you understand.
Jim, See ya there for more and the finished model. I will also be putting in some of my recent restorations.
Before and After

It would be really interesting to see this before and after the restoration. I'll keep watching. Thanks
