mystery tinplate locomotive and carts found in NZ 4 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 32

Bought this decades ago in a garagesale. Fella said it was old and rare.
I figure this would be the best place to find out more about it before moving the whole lot to a proper crystal box. Current box is falling apart.

Hello Richard,

This train is a penny toy made in Germany sometime before 1934. The name penny toy had to do with the price, i.e. these were cheap toys. I have a similar train which is marked JLH, which stands for Johann Leonard Hess. This company was based in Nurnberg till 1934. Allthough these were cheap toys made in large quantities, they are somewhat rare since they were normally played into pieces.

Kind regards

Fred

Thanks James.

Initially I had a bad mood, but when I scrolled through this one I couldn't have been happier.

I find it a lot of fun to find something that's older than my father.

I guess the guy I bought it from twenty years ago was quite correct about its vintage age.

Now I need to know how much its worth... apart from a penny.
