A toy fort of this design (but a different paint colour scheme) was first made by Elf Crafts, in Stourport-on-Severn, England, in the 1950s. It is almost certain that this version is from the early 1960s.

Moritz Gottschalk and his successors (who were all members of his family) were probably the world's leading manufacturer of toy forts at this time, and had been for more than forty-five years.
