Johnny Lightning Remembers the 1970's

Posted by Doug in Tales of Toy CarsCars

Doug

When I first heard that Johnny Lightning was planning a series of cars from the 1970's I hoped this might set a trend. For the past ten years, JL and other manufacturers have had a primary focus on the 1950's and 1960's, especially muscle cars. Sure, they have also done more modern cars but even

Porsches in German racing silver are a favorite for small-scale toycar makers. The models here represent the history of Porsches production cars. Even models built primarily for racing like the 550A and GT2/3 models have been available for road use.

afbeeldingMy first Hot Wheels was one I got from a neighbour. The first one I bought was when Mattel improved distribution in Holland, as they were sold through a mayor toy outlet.
Lately, I did not find any Hot Wheels, Tesco for example, seems to have stopped doing them in Ireland - that other brand of

Hot Wheels Hydros

Doug

Yes, I know this is 'Tales of Toy Cars' not 'Tales of Toy Boats' but I have a weakness for hydroplanes. Growing-up in Seattle, few boys can escape the sirens song of the hydroplane. Seafair brings the hydros to Seattle every year and kids of all ages love to see and hear these amazing boats.

Would you believe?

Sometimes, diecast manufacturers surprise us.

I'm going to give a few examples below.

Who would believe Yat Ming, known for their cheap diecast cars, would produce a small gem like this Talbot-Lago Record T26? The box at the background is the box my example came in, although I believe the bottom has

GMC's Motorhome was one real vehicle that looked like it was designed by Hot Wheels engineers. Its modern timeless design, which looks fresh thirty years later, was furturistic, especially when compared to boxy,

I recently received a package with cars made by Holden's HSV department (Holden Special Vehicles). I am happy to be able to expand on my Holden collection, but not very happy with the quality. I did not expect Biante quality, but these cars are sometimes simply completely off. Well judge for
